Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Health and Safety Auditor to join the Corporate Assurance team, in our Finance and Business Services directorate.

You can be based in one of our UK offices and we have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/home working. You will be required to attend the office around 2 days per week.

As part of your role, you will provide a responsive and helpful service to audit clients through a sound and professional evaluation of risk management, internal control and governance arrangements. This service will be delivered through an effective programme of assignments, supporting the Audit Manager (Health and Safety) and contributing to the development of the annual assurance statement.

What youll be leading on

  • Managing and completing a portfolio of Health and Safety risk-based audits and assurance reviews of organisational and supplier activities, to determine the extent to which health and safety and wellbeing is being managed.
  • Planning/scoping individual assignments, delivery of the fieldwork and the reporting of findings and opinions that meet quality and professional standards.
  • Providing independent, objective and practical support and advice to management and clients on risk management, internal control and governance arrangements.
  • Managing client relations and expectations through good communication skills with staff and managers at all levels, including executive and board members.
  • Working with the business to identify potential recommendations, which will form agreed management actions which address the root causes identified in our reviews, and following up on those management actions to ensure they are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Acting as a health and safety knowledge expert, as and when required to assist the business.

To be successful youll need

  • Degree/Post Graduate Diploma or Diploma in Health and Safety or significant experience in Health and Safety.
  • Graduate or technical membership of the Institute of Safety and Health (TechIOSH or GradIOSH).
  • Significant knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, in particular, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of operational health and safety matters in construction and/or high hazard environments e.g. COMAH sites, petrochemical, utilities, aviation, rail, etc.
  • Experience in the development of audit strategies and plans, and strong experience of successfully leading and undertaking audits.
  • Experience in writing and managing reports for a variety of stakeholders including the board and executive is essential.
