We are currently seeking experienced individuals to join our Criticality Safety Group as Senior Criticality Safety Assessors and Principal Criticality Safety Assessors . We aim to expand our welcoming and supportive team to help individuals grow professionally in a rewarding and stimulating environment.

Our objective is to enhance our internationally recognized, highly capable, amicable, and supportive group to meet the escalating demands of a challenging work program in support of the UK's nuclear deterrent.

Location: Aldermaston, West Berkshire. Situated between Reading and Basingstoke.

While flexible working arrangements are possible, considering the sensitive nature of this role, it is expected that the successful candidate will primarily work on-site at AWE Aldermaston after obtaining the necessary security clearance.

Packages:

  • Senior Criticality Safety Assessor: starting from £52,000 with additional allowances (based on experience and suitability)
  • Principal Criticality Safety Assessor: starting from £65,000 with additional allowances (based on experience and suitability)

A relocation package may be provided - terms and conditions apply.

The Roles

As part of AWE's Criticality Safety Group , our responsibility is to deliver in-house criticality safety assessments to support the company's strategic goals. This involves conducting criticality safety assessments throughout the lifecycle of nuclear facilities, ensuring compliance with Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.

Senior Criticality Safety Assessor:

As a Senior Criticality Safety Assessor , you are expected to take a leading role in capability delivery, providing guidance to operational facilities and new build projects. This position involves coaching junior team members, conducting peer reviews, and potentially joining the emergency response team.

Principal Criticality Safety Assessor:

Our Principal Criticality Safety Assessors serve as Subject Matter Experts, essential in delivering criticality safety assessments and specialized support for various operations related to nuclear materials.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical approval of criticality safety assessments
  • Set the strategy for criticality safety assessments
  • Provide technical support and guidance to facility and project teams
  • Oversee critical safety tasks related to fissile material operations
  • Mentor team members and enhance company management arrangements for criticality safety
  • Engage in outreach activities and represent AWE at conferences
  • Support nuclear material operations and safety assessment specialists
  • Fulfill other duties aligned with business needs

Requirements to be considered:

  • Degree in science, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of nuclear physics, criticality, chemistry, and metallurgy of fissile material
  • Proficiency in criticality safety assessment techniques and regulations
  • Experience in nuclear, high hazard, or regulated industries
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Professional membership in a relevant body (preferred)
