Saint John Wall Catholic School is an oversubscribed 11‐16 school with a diverse population, serving the community of North West Birmingham.In June 2023, Ofsted judged the school Good with outstanding behaviour and attitudes and outstanding leadership and management.Over 50% of our pupils qualify for additional Pupil Premium funding, and Ofsted said ‘ leaders use the funding for disadvantaged pupils creatively and effectively , and ‘ consequently disadvantaged pupils achieve well’ .There are many different languages spoken by school members, and Ofsted said ‘ leaders have thought carefully about the needs of those pupils’ .

As Head of RE and Catholic Ethos you would lead a fully staffed department of Religious Studies specialists with a track record of strong outcomes for pupils.You will also lead a small Chaplaincy Team, and other colleagues to continue to develop the outstanding Catholic Ethos across a diverse school community.As a practising Catholic, by personal example and with professional leadership, you will ensure the Catholic Ethos, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic church, permeates all aspects of the life of the school.

The Role

· To be accountable for leading, managing and developing a high quality of education in the subject/curriculum area.

· To lead the Catholic Ethos of the school, including Collective Worship and Catholic Life (PICCL).

· To be a Senior Middle Leader within the school acting as a role model of best practice to colleagues; undertaking duties and on call, attending school events and representing the school in a professional capacity across the Diocese and other partnerships.

· To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the school and policies determined by the Governing Body and Headteacher.

· To ensure high quality implementation of the curriculum.

· To raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support pupil progress.
