Job Purpose: R&D Technician - Grangemill To manage and spearhead the R&D function at Grangemill. Carrying out sample preparation and testing of trial materials. Collate external testing, and provide written reports for completed R&D projects. An awareness of developments within the related industries and a drive to explore how IKO may benefit. Provide QA cover as and when necessary. Qualifications: R&D Technician - Grangemill 5 GCSE A-C (5-9) including Maths, English and Sciences or proven experience in a similar role Principal Objectives: R&D Technician - Grangemill

  • To ensure the R&D function operates effectively
  • Produce lab trial mixes
  • Prepare and test R&D materials
  • Prepare test samples for external testing
  • Ensure timely reporting of test results and ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • Liaise with production and Engineering departments to facilitate plant trials
  • To provide holiday / illness cover to the QA lab
  • Write and maintain Risk Assessments
  • Write and Maintain SSOPs
  • Maintenance of project tracking systems
  • Keep up to date with industry standards and technologies
  • To look for improvements and research new materials.
  • KPI and measurement reports are produced and tracked.
  • Testing is carried out in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Reports are issued in accordance with agreed company standards and timeframes.
Person Specification: R&D Technician - Grangemill Good practical knowledge of Asphalt and hot melt roofing applications. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Self motivated Ability to problem solve Good attention to detail. Confidence to deal with people at all levels. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Good report writing skills. Excellent organisation skills. Good knowledge of IT software, specifically Microsoft packages. Ability to organise working days in a logical manner. Flexible in terms of travelling and hours. A practical “Can do” attitude. Commercial focus. Effective decision making skills. Adaptable. Managing Operations: R&D Technician - Grangemill Ensure expectations, objectives and key performance indicators are communicated clearly to team members. Hold regular development meetings Complete PDR process as guidelines dictate. Build and maintain a professional relationship with both internal and external customers. Effective working relationships. Provide managers and colleagues with information relevant to their needs. Manage and control the administrative element of the role. Manage sensitive data maintaining confidentiality. Reports are written and analysed as needed. Knowledge of word, PowerPoint and other software packages. Report writing skills
