Successful candidates will be based out of our Rutherford House (Whitehaven) office delivering high hazard decommissioning working as part of a multi-discipline team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will lead a small team of SHEQ professionals within the Decommissioning and Waste Services business, supporting the business to deliver projects and bids. You will be the focal point for all SHEQ matters within the business building positive relationships with our clients to deliver successful outcomes.
  • You will have a focus on continual improvement identifying and driving better and more efficient ways of doing the right things right.
  • Enabling a psychologically safe environment where colleagues are happy to report concerns and ensure that they are investigated, and the necessary remedial activities are actioned, delivered, and embedded.
  • You will be responsible for our continued compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 19443. In doing so you will contribute to SHEQ management reviews and strategic SHEQ improvements, developing annual improvement objectives and plans and overseeing their implementation.

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to gain people’s trust and find a pragmatic balance between business and SHEQ requirements.
  • Innovation – ability to develop appropriate solutions to SHEQ challenges.
  • Client focus – ability to continually assess client requirements and tailor approach accordingly.
  • Ability to influence, engage and positively challenge, including good communication and presentation skills using a ‘keep it simple’ approach.
  • Questioning attitude in assurance function with problem identification and resolution focus.
  • Develop and share good practice across the business, other businesses and with clients.
  • Relevant SHEQ qualifications memberships.
  • Security vetting and clearance where required.

DWS currently employs over 250 staff supplemented by a strong supply chain and delivers over £40m of revenue through various decommissioning and waste management frameworks. We have expanded our scope over recent years and the opportunities available to us, across our numerous portfolio areas, are diverse and growing. Our business delivery functions are required to grow and in line with the business to support all aspects of delivery. This new role forms a critical part of the DWS Leadership Team.

A strong understanding of all aspects of functional capability required to support our growing full project lifecycle delivery capability and support the recruitment and development of our staff.

  • This role will be part of the DWS Leadership Team and report to the Market Director.
