Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist

Band 6, Full-time 37.5 hours

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our team for an OT with children's OT experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced OT to join our well established and innovative Children's OT service that combines the traditional roles of both health and social services children's OT. We have recently relocated to a modern purpose built Children's Development Centre (CDC) promoting MDT working and shared working spaces.
Proposed Interview Date: 6th June 2024

Main duties of the job

The post will provide OT services to children with a wide range of disabilities. OT services will include the full range of OT input required by the children on your caseload in their homes, nurseries, schools and respite placements within Croydon. Along with clinical work the post holder will also supervise more junior members of the team and OT students on placements and assist with and lead on service developments. Regular supervision and support will be provided.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:- A Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy- State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)- Experience working with children with disabilities in a community OT setting- A valid UK manual driving license

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of CPD including relevant clinical training and courses

Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate paediatric training e.g. sensory processing or neurodisability
  • Member of appropriate clinical interest group

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of a Children's Occupational Therapist
  • Uses clinical reasoning and reflective practice to improve service delivery
  • Experiential learning to demonstrate the required experience to manage a caseload
  • Awareness of clinical governance and children's safeguarding agenda and guidance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of outcome measures/ audit.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and application of national guidelines / legislation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children at under-graduate or post-graduate level, or in another relevant setting

Desirable

  • Previous Band 6 experience in a relevant setting
  • Previous community experience
  • Experience working with children with ASD, ADHD and Cerebral Palsy

Skills

Essential

  • Self-management skills e.g. time management and organisational skills
  • Basic computer skills including data entry, use of word processing and email

Desirable

  • Commitment to staff development and training

additional

Essential

  • Fit and able to complete physical tasks e.g. moving a child, equipment, use of a hoist
  • Manual Drivers Licence - valid in the UK
