The post currently available is a Band 6 Occupational post on the stroke pathway,. It is a 12 month rotational post rotating between the acute stroke team, which includes the regional HASU thrombolysis and thrombectomy service, the inpatient stroke rehabilitation team (at Chapel Allerton Hospital) and community stroke rehabilitation team (CSRT).

The successful candidate will be employed by Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust but work within Leeds Community Healthcare during their CSRT rotation. Rotations occur yearly.

There will be an expectation to deliver evidence based stroke practise, complete holistic OT neuro assessments, establish and facilitate person-centred treatment goals.

Skills in complex discharge planning and risk assessment are also required. Good communication skills are essential. Along with good time management and prioritisation skills as you manage your own caseloads. You will be expected to be able to work autonomously but also collaboratively as part of the MDT.

As a band 6 you will support the band 7 in leading and developing the services, including clinical audit and in-service training. Inaddition you will contribute and support the clinical supervision and appraisals of more junior staff and be involved in the development of Occupational Therapy students and Clinical Support Workers.

Job responsibilities

To work within the Occupational Therapy Service, providing OT intervention to a caseload of Stroke patients.

To manage autonomously a clinical workload at a specialist level: assessing and treating patients and maintain associated records

To develop and apply specialist knowledge, gained from past experience, on the job experience and specialist training.

To provide a patient - focused service following the Occupational Therapy process (screen referrals, assess and plan treatment programmes, implement and evaluate treatment programmes, monitor and discharge) and using Occupational Therapy core skills.

To supervise and support Occupational Therapists.

To delegate work to, supervise and support Occupational Therapy support staff.

To supervise and educate Occupational Therapy students.

To act as a specialist Occupational Therapy resource for colleagues, carers and patients.

To be actively involved in team and service developments including audit and research.
