This role is particularly well suited to ex-military candidates who are energetic, progressive, and have the vision to take a leading role in the strategic future of the Estate.

The Trustees of the Estate own and oversee the operation of some £60m of assets in Cumbria. The business operates with a mixture of trading and investment income from let commercial, residential and agricultural property, a portfolio of holiday lets, leisure and tourism businesses, green energy, commercial and amenity forestry and two large countryside stewardship schemes. 

The Operations Director will report to the Trustees, work alongside existing consultants (land agents, accountants and solicitors) and be responsible for the overall running of the business. 

This appointment will herald the start of a new three-year plan (produced by the Trustees, Beneficiaries and Agents), which will be followed by a subsequent 10 year growth plan, to be spear-headed by the Operations Director.

The key role of the Operations Director will be to lead a highly talented team of up to 14 members with all the skills required to deliver the strategic objectives of the Estate. You will bring your skills and experience to collaborate, make difficult decisions, synthesise information and pull disparate (often competing) objectives and information together to make good decisions. 

Key experience you will have:

• Managing high value projects - £3m+

• Creating and managing complex budgets. 

• Line management of people. 

• Literacy with Microsoft Excel, P&L, balance sheets and cashflows.

• Commercial awareness.

• Understanding of risk and ability to learn.

• Ability to work with other professionals.

• An interest in the countryside and in business.
