Role Overview: As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of secondary-aged students with special educational needs. Working closely with the classroom teachers, you will provide tailored assistance to meet the individual needs of students, helping them to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the class teacher to support the learning and development of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Provide one-to-one or small group support, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students. Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring all students feel valued and supported. Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to create a comprehensive support network. Be confident with behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques. Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility. Be a fantastic role model and encourage positive behaviour. Be comfortable and confident supporting children with complex SEN and medical needs. Communicate with the children by using PECS, sign language and : Experience supporting adults and/or children with complex needs is essential. Personal experience supporting a family member with SEN/PMLD is also valued. Level 2 Team Teach is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas. Safeguarding training is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas. GCSE English and Maths. Strong knowledge of SEN is essential. A moving and handling qualification is preferred.
