Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to lead on the delivery of habitat enhancement projects in North Kent and beyond. Working closely with landowners, tenant farmers and the RSPB, you will help design, consent, tender and deliver wetland restoration that will benefit breeding waders and other wildlife.
What's the role about?
This project is funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
This is a full-time contract, starting in June 2024 and finishing on the 28th February 2026. The role will work alongside four separate landholdings on the Hoo Peninsula and support RSPB projects elsewhere in Kent. We are looking for an enthusiastic, well planned, and resilient person with good communication skills. You will have an ability to coordinate habitat designs that deliver good outcomes for wetland wildlife, acquire planning consents, run a professional tender process and oversee delivery of the works safely, on budget and on time.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- A passion for wildlife conservation.
- Experience of managing complex projects.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to solve issues quickly, efficiently and creatively, and to manage change within projects.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Knowledge of wetland ecology.
- Experience of acquiring consents for capital works on designated sites.
- Experience of managing procurement processes.
- Experience of managing contractors.
This is a Fixed-Term role for 37.5 hours per week.
The contract ends on 28th February 2026 and the RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
We are looking to conduct interviews for this position on 24th May 2024. For further information please contact alan.johnson@rspb.org.uk.
As part of this application process you will be asked to complete an application form including evidence on how you meet the skills, knowledge, and experience listed above.
We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse RSPB, in which everyone feels supported, valued, and able to be their full selves. To achieve our vision of creating a world richer in nature, we need more people, and more diverse people, on nature’s side. People of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sector. If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application. Contact us to discuss any additional support you may need to complete your application.
The RSPB is an equal opportunities employer. This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
The RSPB is a licenced sponsor. This role is not eligible for UK Visa Sponsorship - the successful applicant will need to have a pre-existing Right to Work in the UK in order to be offered an employment contract.
