Transport Controller

Role Overview:

The Transport Controller plays a pivotal role in overseeing the smooth operation of the transport function within our busy logistics environment. This position involves managing resources, engaging with drivers, ensuring compliance, and maintaining efficient communication channels

Key Responsibilities:

Transport Operation and Resource Management:

* Coordinate the operation of transport resources, ensuring alignment with the transport plan.

* Liaise with drivers to communicate instructions and address any issues that may arise during operations.

* Collaborate with the Compliance team to ensure assets are available to fulfil transport requirements.

Driver Engagement and Administration:

* Conduct start-of-shift briefings and end-of-shift debriefs for drivers, addressing any concerns and taking corrective actions as needed.

* Manage driver administrative tasks, including POD documentation and addressing queries from accounts and customers.

Vehicle Maintenance and Compliance:

* Oversee daily vehicle checks and ensure defects are reported and resolved promptly.

* Coordinate maintenance schedules in collaboration with the Compliance and Planning teams.

Driver Compliance and Performance:

* Implement a debrief process to ensure daily compliance reports are generated and corrective actions are documented.

* Monitor driver behaviour and performance, taking necessary actions to address any issues or escalate them to higher management.

Operational Support and Communication:

* Communicate any changes or issues affecting the execution of the transport plan to the central Planning team and shift managers.

* Monitor and track collections and deliveries, maintaining communication with customers, drivers, and other depots.

Health and Safety Compliance:

* Take responsibility for ensuring all health and safety obligations are met, providing a safe working environment, and escalating concerns when necessary.

Resource and Financial Management:

* Monitor driver adherence to planned start times and manage resource allocation effectively.

* Communicate any resource-related issues such as sickness or absence to shift managers and assist in coordinating return-to-work interviews.

Equipment and Training:

* Issue and collect all necessary equipment to drivers, providing instructions as needed.

* Support shift managers in onboarding new and agency drivers, ensuring proficiency in planning systems and vehicle applications.

Yard and Site Access Control:

* Assist in controlling yard operations, coordinating trailer movements, and ensuring efficient loading and unloading processes.

* Maintain accurate records of site access, including visitor and contractor logs.

Key Skills and Attributes:

* Adaptability and a drive to develop within a dynamic transport operation.

* Numeracy, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to embrace challenges and adapt to change effectively.

* This role requires a proactive and organized individual who can efficiently manage resources, maintain compliance, and foster effective communication channels within a fast-paced transport environment.
