Environmental Planner

Role Overview:

Our Planning and Estates Team is responsible for the management of our UK estates ensuring that we maximise the efficient use of our assets and secure future mineral supply and processing capabilities as part of our long-term mineral development plan.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Planner to join our small team responsible for a substantial portfolio of mineral extraction and processing sites, rural estate and other related land assets.

Working under the Head of Planning and Estates we require a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team assisting in the management of planning applications, environmental permitting, monitoring and compliance. You will lead and assist in the environmental assessment and permitting process for new mineral and glass recycling developments. Alongside this you will ensure compliance of our existing planning and environmental permits working alongside our operational teams in the monitoring and maintenance of emissions data. You will provide expert advice to the operational business to ensure the license to operate is maintained.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in planning and development or environmental compliance.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage and assist planning applications for new mineral and waste sites alongside the secondary consenting and environmental permitting processes.

2. Project manage the coordination of EIAs of mineral and waste developments using a range of consultants in accordance with the companies procedures.

3. Co-ordinate the management of Sibelco’s Environmental Compliance monitoring covering planning, waste, water and environmental emissions management. Liaise with external consultants and internal colleagues to ensure data collection and submission to the relevant authorities at specific time intervals.

4. Participate in external and internal audits in relation to environmental compliance including ISO14001 audits.

5. Promote strategic land assets within Local Development Plans including environmental feasibility considerations of specific sites. If required represent the Companies interests at Examinations in Public.

6. Engage with local planning authorities to promote sites and discuss development proposals through formal and informal routes.

7. Liaising with and advising Operational and Commercial colleagues on planning and environmental issues linked to the development of UK assets.

8. Engage with stakeholders to develop relationships and participate in local liaison events at UK sites to keep local communities engaged in the Companies activities.

9. Assist with the implementation of policies, strategies and guidelines from Global Sustainability.

Key Attributes Required:

  • Ideally Chartered Town Planner with RTPI qualification or working towards this or similar based degree with environmental experience.
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Previous experience in the coordination of EIA’s
  • In depth technical knowledge of EIA disciplines with a proven ability to read and write professional reports.
  • An understanding and knowledge of environmental compliance and permit monitoring
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to senior professionals, internal and external stakeholder.
  • Ability to build a rapport with a variety of people from all backgrounds.
  • The ability to manage time effectively and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Be flexible and work to numerous pressurised deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Full UK Driving License and willingness to travel around UK sites. (Note: Occasional travel overseas may be required dependent on business needs).
