The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) protype fusion plant. UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype.
Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKIFS, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040. UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year. UKIFS's pay arrangements and grading structure are currently under review as part of a transformation project and proposed multi-year pay deal. This will enable us to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximise the scientific and economic benefit. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) is the UK’s flagship national programme to deliver a prototype fusion energy plant, targeting 2040, and a path to commercial viability of fusion. STEP is deliberately bold and ambitious and seeks people who want to be part of a world-changing endeavour and who have credible and relevant experiencing in delivery.
Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Benefits and Impact Specialist in in the field of fusion energy. You will help to evidence and communicate the impact of the programme and lead activities to promote benefit identification and management, to help bring clarity to the unique elements of the programme and what impact they are likely to deliver.
This opportunity will involve engaging with all aspects of the STEP programme as well as supporting the programme’s interface with the Government’s assurance and approval processes for project funding and delivery.
Designing, delivering, and managing both in-house and commissioned research projects.
Undertaking qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, from the development of research materials and surveys, data and evaluation.
Conduct and commission in-depth research, monitoring, and evaluation, to build the evidence base to support STEP in meeting our strategic priorities.
Responding to ad hoc request for evidence relating to policy, key thematic areas, for example the UK Government Spending Review.
Working experience with programme benefits and/or monitoring and evaluation.
Experience of quantitative and/ or qualitative analysis.
An ability to grasp issues quickly and understand the big picture for Department for Energy Security and Net Zero ( DESNZ), the wider fusion sector, and government.
Ability to quickly respond to changing demands and priorities, with the confidence to take quick decisions without comprising the quality of work.
