Reactor Engineering is accountable for the component design, substantiation and safety case of most components comprising the reactor assembly. This includes the core, core structures, CRDMs, and the reactor assembly itself. The department skills include design, physics, performance, materials, and structural integrity.

What you will be doing:

You will be leading a team of 40 to 60 thermal performance engineers, including methods development.

  • Managing wellbeing, recruitment, team structure, absence, and performance.
  • Be delegated authority for governance and document approval.
  • Providing technical and strategic direction on projects in scope.
  • Delivering performance analysis for the reactor and wider plant under normal and fault conditions.
  • Delivering methods and tools to enable efficient and modern assessment of plant performance analyses.
  • Be accountable for cost, quality, and delivery of the team.
  • Collaborating with the physics and design engineering managers to manage the component safety case and product safety processes and with the other engineering managers and the Heads of Capability to maintain and develop team capability.
  • A role model for Rolls-Royce values and behaviours.

  • Educated to degree level in engineering or other appropriate technical discipline.
  • Ideally completed the NSSC or equivalent course.
  • Member of a recognised UK engineering institution.
  • Previous experience of leading large engineering teams to meet challenging business goals.
  • Broad range of engineering skills and experience, especially in NSRP design, development and manufacture.
  • Excellent communicator with proven record on employee engagement and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control and product safety management processes.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
