Commercial Solicitor - Fashion/IP & General Commercial

First off, a bit about the firm and the role. The firm itself is a solid regional commercial player. With long established roots in the North West and a stable financial base, the management team are investing significantly in growth to meet the broader needs within the business. The aim is to stay true to the consultative and client supportive commercial practice they are known for and inevitably that comes down to attracting the right people.

The role itself arises from one aspect of the growth strategy which is to further develop their Manchester presence.

That presence is pretty limited at present but that is where the opportunity lies.

The corporate team works across a range of sector including fast moving consumer goods, professional practices to fashion and retail and the nature of clients has given rise to commercial work that requires the attention of a specialist.

The commercial work itself can include commercial agreements in the context of fashion and retail, including IP protection, supply and distribution agreements as well as broader influencer arrangements. It isn't a role that is too "tech" heavy in terms of SaaS and DP work and is more general in its profile.

What it represents is an opportunity for someone who already has a level of experience in commercial contracts and that has confidence in their ability to work on a broad range of agreements. In Manchester, it would represent the first footfall of someone on the commercial side and so there is real opportunity to impress and influence the drive towards establishing a larger commercial team.

In terms of what is required, a certain degree of self-sufficiency. You will work closely with corporate partners who equally have levels of experience of commercial agreements but there must be a good foundation/level of exposure to commercial contracts.

It will be challenging and engaging and a chance for a bright and ambitious lawyer to make their mark. Given the size of the team in Manchester, it can also represent a quick route to progress for someone that is willing to put in the work.

On a practical level it is likely that you will have 3 years + experience dealing with general commercial contracts as there will be a good level of assumed responsibility to come. This is by no means set in stone and for someone with slightly less but a real appetite to influence and shape their future then there could always be scope for discussion.
