An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join a highly experienced, multi-professional team working with people with learning disabilities in Tameside.

The post-holder will be based within the Community Learning Disability Team at Hollingworth Clinic in Tameside . We deliver high quality healthcare assessments and interventions to people with complex and challenging needs. The team comprises of community nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, assistant practitioners and psychiatry input.

Main duties of the job

Delivery of evidence based Speech and Language Therapy assessments and interventions to adults with learning disabilities who may have complex and challenging needs. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary context with the expectation to be person centred, creative and innovative in meeting the communication needs of individuals whilst offering support to families and carers. The postholder will be an excellent team player who demonstrates the ability to work effectively and productively.

Key Responsibilities of the Post:

To undertake, highly complex swallowing and communication assessments in order to diagnose speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders.

To develop hypotheses based on assessment and implement Specialist Speech & Language Therapy treatment and programmes of care and discharge appropriately.

To use evidence based practice to inform clinical decision making in relation to communication impairments and dysphagia.

Key Requirements of the Person Specification:

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.

Evidence of the successful completion of post basic dysphagia qualification.

Previous experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities

Well established knowledge of relevant national and local policies, procedures and clinical guidelines (relevant to the client group).

Essential


  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
  • HCPC Registration - Licence to Practice.
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses or other post graduate training.
  • Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Evidence of the successful completion of post basic dysphagia qualification

Desirable


  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks.
  • Sign language qualification

Experience

  • Relevant clinical experience at post graduate level.
  • Experience in developing specialised packages of care.
  • Experience of working within a relevant specialist area.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with parents, carers and professionals.
  • Experience of training others.
  • Experience of managing the Dysphagia needs of clients with Learning Disabilities
