The Role:

Oversee and manage day-to-day site operations for all customers, collaborating with the Senior Management Team to implement, lead, and develop the operation, ensuring exceptional service delivery in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

  • Manage and coordinate all operational activities within the site
  • Ensuring that processes are efficient, and services are delivered according to client agreements and industry standards
  • Ensure the site adheres to/surpasses agreed SLA and KPIs

Team Leadership

  • Providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the team meets performance targets and KPIs
    • Lead and coordinate a unified and efficient management team, ensuring consistency across shifts in a 24/7 operational environment
    • Encourage proactive responses in people management to address change issues and initiatives, facilitating the depot in fulfilling its responsibilities to staff and advancing site or organisational aims and objective
  • Coach and mentor team members while actively contributing to the identification of individual and depot training needs. Foster team development to encourage continuous improvement methodologies, enhancing site profitability, service, and efficiency in alignment with organisational objectives

Client Relations

  • Primary contact point for customers regarding operational communication at the site level
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their logistics needs and expectations
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement solutions that meet their specific requirements

Financial Management

  • Manage the budget for the site and ensure that financial targets are met
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimise operational efficiency to maximize profitability

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure the site is compliant with Health and Safety regulations and industry standards
  • Implement and maintain quality control measures to meet regulatory requirements
  • To attend and contribute to depot groups and wider Company meetings, for example, the Health and Safety Committee, etc. To advise on the people and system implications, issues and responses to further the group’s strategies and objectives

Systems

  • Oversee the implementation and utilisation of technology, such as warehouse management systems (WMS) and tracking systems, to enhance operational efficiency

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance overall efficiency
  • Monitor industry trends and adopt new technologies or methodologies to stay competitive

Communication

  • Promote effective communication within the site and foster collaboration with other departments in the company
  • Keep stakeholders informed of key developments and ensure a smooth flow of information

Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

Essential experience, skills & behaviours

  • Significant experience in logistics, supply chain, or warehouse management, with a deep understanding of 3PL operations
  • Experience of a site set up of a large warehouse environment
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in managing teams and driving operational excellence
  • Experience in client-facing roles, including managing client relationships, understanding customer needs, and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Experience with logistics technology, including warehouse management systems (WMS) implementation, set up or development and other relevant tools
  • Knowledge of BRC / GWP / GMP and any other relevant Quality models
  • Knowledge of Microsoft MI packages to an advanced level
  • Lean Six Sigma / Unipart Way & other CI methodologies
  • Ability to optimise and streamline day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and meet performance targets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address operational challenges effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Capability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for the site
  • Inspirational leadership style with the ability to motivate and engage teams
  • Dedication to delivering exceptional service and meeting customer expectations
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to make sound judgments in a fast-paced environment

Desirable experience, skills & behaviours

  • Nebosh General Certificate
  • Supply Chain / Logistics / Management focused degree
  • CPC
