Responsibilities:
  1. To be responsible for the day to day medical cover of the Nuclear Medicine service including PET/CT, PETMR, SPECTCT, Cardiac Stress Testing, Dexa and radionuclide therapies.
  2. To perform and supervise a wide range of imaging procedures including complex examinations with a wide variety of patient presentations, to a high clinical standard, prioritising patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.
  3. To work closely with the senior professional workforce, radiographer and technologist colleagues, medical, physicist and nursing staff to ensure provision of an efficient and responsive Nuclear Medicine service.
  4. Record patients’ medical history and other clinical data onto patient clerking sheets and the Radiology Information System, as required.
  5. Familiarise themselves and become involved with all technical and clinical aspects of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and therapy procedures.
  6. Perform pre-treatment risk assessments and administer radionuclide therapy (under supervision).
  7. Report general nuclear medicine, bone densitometry and PET/CT studies (under supervision initially).
  8. Attend and present (under supervision) at multidisciplinary oncological and non-oncological multidisciplinary meetings.
  9. Undertake audit and quality improvement projects, in agreement with the Educational supervisor.

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population. We provide academically led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. Our vision is to deliver top-quality patient care, excellent education, and world-class research.

We provide first-class acute and specialist services across eight sites:

  1. University College Hospital (incorporating the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing)
  2. National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery
  3. Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals
  4. University College Hospital Grafton Way Building
  5. Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine
  6. University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre
  7. The Hospital for Tropical Diseases
  8. University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street

We are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of many complex illnesses. UCLH specialises in women’s health and the treatment of cancer, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease. It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology.

We are committed to sustainability and have pledged to become a carbon net zero health service, embedding sustainable practice throughout UCLH. We have set an ambitious target of net zero for our direct emissions by 2031 and indirect emissions by 2040.

Nuclear Medicine is at present one of the most rapidly evolving medical specialisations; 50% of all procedures now carried out are less than five years old, and are relevant to oncology, cardiology and neurology – all areas of key medical priority. The work environment within this leading academic unit is both challenging and stimulating. The department is regularly called upon to introduce and innovate novel techniques and procedures, often requiring that these be developed solely using the knowledge and expertise drawn from its staff.

We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic doctors to join our forward-thinking and friendly department right in the heart of London’s West End.

Come and be a part of the best NHS trust in England to work for, according to our staff.
