Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist

in the Medical Equipment ManagementService (MEMS)

- Band 5 *Annex 21

We have a rare opportunity to recruit a Level 6 Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist to work within our Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS). The successful candidate will follow a 3-year programme of academic and on-the-job training that will open up a career as a Clinical Engineering Technologist.

MEMS is an essential clinical support service within our hospitals, providing whole life equipment management services for the range of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat patients throughout our hospitals. We are a dedicated team of around 30 members of staff based in workshops across the Trust.

On successful completion of the programme, the Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will gain an apprenticeship qualification as a Healthcare Science Practitioner at Level 6. The programme incorporates on-the-job training with protected time to study relevant scientific and engineering knowledge and skills, (off-the-job), through a day release degree apprenticeship course at the University of the West of England.

We are looking for an apprentice to join the department who pays attention to detail, is not afraid to ask questions and is able to learn fast on the job, whilst balancing the needs of their apprenticeship training.
During the training period the Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will develop expertise through theoretical study (university education), technical and practical training to enable them to carry out planned and corrective maintenance tasks, acceptance testing of equipment, calibration of test equipment, routine maintenance and corrective repairs on medical devices to ensure equipment operates safely and effectively with a minimum downtime for service users and patients.

The Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will be able to build up their knowledge of the work of the services as they become competent in specific tasks, gradually increasing in complexity during the three-year training course.
