Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist - West Midlands

The Role:

We are seeking to recruit data scientists of different levels of seniority to join Stonegate Group, the largest pub company in the UK, in its transformation to a data-driven organisation.

You will work with a team of skilled data scientists and engineers in an environment that will stimulate your professional growth. Our team tries to use the best tools and methodologies, and you will also have a chance to contribute to them. A few examples of what you need to expect are full DevOps, code reviews, and automated testing. You may also be exposed to data engineering tasks and responsibilities as a part of your project.

There are four areas of work we are hiring for, listed below. Please specify which area is the most interesting to you and why in your application.

Pricing Optimisation. This project is focused on automated optimised pricing in our pubs. The desired expertise for this role includes prior experience with pricing, a strong statistical foundation, and experience with a range of different data science approaches and techniques, from clustering and tree-based methods to high-dimensional time series modelling and neural networks. Test & Learn Framework . This role relates to the improvement of our internal, python-based framework for running and evaluating the results of the business experiments. It is desirable to have prior experience with A/B testing and a profound understanding of statistical methods to evaluate the results of the experiments. This role also involves hands-on analysis of our business experiments, so you must be ready to share your findings in PPT and communicate with different stakeholders. Data Visualisation for Test & Learn Framework . This role will focus on visualising the results of the Test & Learn experiments embedded in the self-service web portal. Advanced skills in data visualisation using Streamlit or other interactive Python-based data visualisation frameworks are essential. Experience with front-end development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript is a plus. Consumer Insights. This role is focused on analysing consumer behaviour within our loyalty app and generating insights that can help improve user retention and engagement. It requires previous experience working with consumer behaviour data, including raw data coming from GA Prior experience in building consumer retention and/or churn models is a plus.

Soft Skills and Character:

Ability to interpret results, question them and investigate where required Deep analytics and communicating insights Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

Essential Skills:

Advanced SQL Advanced Python Advanced Statistics and Probability Advanced Machine Learning Data Analysis, Visualisation, and Storytelling Data Engineering skills

Beneficial skills and experience:

Experience in the hospitality industry Building the price elasticity models Building the price models based on a competitive environment Building surge pricing models Price optimisation Time series modelling and forecasting Signal processing Probabilistic modelling Experience in A/B testing VBA Working with consumer online behavioural data Building retention/churn models Experience with raw data coming from GA4

Tools you will be using:

Python for data transformation and machine learning DBT for data transformation and documentation Snowflake – our data warehouse Databricks for deployment of ML model Power BI / Streanlit / TBC for data visualisation

The Solihull Pub Support Team offices are light and airy offices in Shirley, Solihull, where you will be greeted by our Welcome Team. We have free onsite secure parking with EV charging and cycle storage, a subsidised canteen serving breakfast and lunch, as well as an onsite pub used for social events. The offices are fully accessible.
