Our client delivers advanced filtration technologies that reduce the cost and environmental impact of processing fluids in lithium extraction, semiconductor manufacture, hydrogen production, desalination, water reuse and the production of food and beverages. Their additive-manufactured membranes are precision-engineered for transformational performance in key areas of the new energy economy.

The successful applicant will be working collaboratively with the R&D teams, industrial partners, and collaborators to enable the successful deployment of these new technologies into the field.

The Process Engineering Manager will take innovative membrane separation technologies and solutions developed and design, develop and commission, pilot and industrial scale systems for integration at customer sites. They will play an active role in helping to scale up lab proven technologies to commercial scale by applying industrial relevant processes.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Detailed process design for pilot and commercial plants
  • Commissioning and qualification of new processes and equipment to meet target customer specifications
  • Management of off-site trials and commercial plant deployment
  • Devise and implement testing plans based on the process conditions and technical specifications provided by key stakeholders
  • Carrying out internal and external Risk Assessments on equipment and processes
  • Lead and support for the root cause analysis, diagnosis, and repair of equipment
  • Assessing compliance and adherence to safety and quality standards and reporting to higher management about their findings and proposals
  • Preparing process documentation and operating instructions
  • Management of documents, including mass, heat and energy balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and hydraulic designs of pilot an industrial scale systems
  • Lead and support on field trials at customer sites, within the UK and globally
  • Data collection, recording and monitoring, ensuring the integrity and validity of the measurements.
  • Analysing and interpreting measurement data to identify improvements in processes and equipment set-up
  • Use of modelling and simulation software in the development of new processes
  • Developing the company’s engineering capability in line with ambitious growth plans

Candidate requirements :

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • BSc / MSc in process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related subject
  • Experience in the development / deployment of membrane filtration systems in liquid processing
  • Understanding of heat and mass transfer, fluid flow, pressure, and energy
  • Proactive in troubleshooting process related issued
  • Experience in the development and roll out of systems, including, deployment, testing, commissioning and maintenance
  • Quick learner, able to adapt to a rapidly changing, innovative environment
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems against deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Experience with specifying, implementing, and commissioning of high value capital projects
  • Experienced with HMI and PLC systems
  • A knowledge of membrane separation and/or water treatment is highly desirable, although candidates without experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong technical and collaborative approach
  • It is expected that the successful process engineer will perform tasks outside of their job description as our young company expands and evolves, so it is essential that they are collaborative with a strong desire to achieve success as part of a team.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to travel and spend periods of time working at customer sites
