We are looking to recruit a resourceful, motivated senior Occupational Therapist, experienced in mental health and who enjoys new challenges.

The post will be based at Broadmoor Hospital. It offers a great development opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to develop their skills in managing a service while keeping a clinical case load. This holder would have management responsibility for the Recovery College or Vocational Services. They need to have a good knowledge of the VdT MoCA which is the model used within the hospital.

The hospital has moved to a new bespoke hospital. It is the most modern high security forensic hospital in the country. The hospital focuses on innovative care to a challenging and interesting patient group. We have a strong commitment to multi-professional working within the clinical team, focussing on reducing risk and offending behaviours.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical leadership and line management to staff where most appropriate and to hold a clinical caseload modelling good practise to junior staff. They will communicate the principle of the VdT Model of Creative Ability, to all staff, thus improving the understanding across High Secure Service (HSS).

The ensure the area they manage is responsive to patient needs and accountable for the service it provides. This would be demonstrating via service audit and achievement of key performance indicators.

Qualifications and Training

Essential


  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent MSc level in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of post-graduate training in mental health
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Practice placement supervision training
  • RCOT registered or other Indemnity Insurance in place.

Desirable


  • Management/Leadership training
  • Accredited Practice placement supervision training
  • Coaching skills

Experience

Essential


  • Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience as an AHP
  • Clear indication of an interest in the relevant MH area
  • In-patient or community mental health Occupational Therapist
  • Supervision of AHP staff and support staff
  • Supervision of Occupational Therapy students on practice placement
  • Experience in Service or treatment audit
  • Experience in the use of the VdT MoCA as a model of practice
  • Demonstrated involvement in service development
  • Provide leadership to junior staff
  • Write local operational protocols or group protocols in collaboration with others.

Desirable


  • Experience of specific mental health speciality
  • Understanding of the needs of the particular patients within setting
  • Supporting effective change management within teams

  • Applied Knowledge of NSF and changes within wider NHS relevant to Mental Health
