Our client is a UK based company providing specialist consulting engineering services to the offshore renewable energy sector. They are actively working in the offshore wind industry and the Lead Geotechnical Engineer strengthens their services.
The RoleThe Lead Geotechnical Engineer is in a client-facing role, working on a range of offshore wind projects. They are expected to:
- Specify and manage site surveys and laboratory testing programmes on behalf of clients.
- Perform geotechnical interpretation of soils feeding into soil structure interaction models for foundations design.
- Carry out and/or analyze driveability assessments and consider relevant information from the pile installation contractor.
- Engage with the installation contractor to establish the most optimal pile installation procedure and evaluate the impact on the foundation design.
- Review and comment on seismic analysis and understand how seismicity interacts with and impacts the foundation design.
- Interpret soils and perform various analyses relating to the conceptual design of offshore wind turbine foundations, including hand calculations, finite element analysis, and fatigue analysis according to applicable codes and standards.
- Be involved with project management both internally at Empire Engineering and in managing external projects for clients.
- Travel within Western Europe for meetings, site visits, or inspections. Longer-term secondments to client offices may also be part of the role.
- Contribute to business development and front the development of geotechnical services on behalf of Empire Engineering among existing and new clients.
The successful applicant should:
- Hold a degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Structural engineering.
- Have 8+ years of experience in the offshore engineering sector, with the majority in the offshore renewables industry.
- Possess knowledge of structures, offshore installation, and dynamics of offshore wind turbine foundations.
- Have experience working with certification agencies such as DNV-GL, Lloyds Register, and Bureau Veritas, etc.
- Be a strong communicator both in written form and in meetings/presentations.
- Work well in a team.
