About The Role

Following the successful acquisition of Daunia and Blackwater metallurgical coal mines, we have created a new role in our Corporate Procurement Team. We are looking for a Category Manager to join our Procurement team in Newcastle. You will support the execution of Whitehaven Coal’s Procurement strategy and lead sourcing projects for goods and services at an exciting time for the company. We are looking for strong team players to join our tight knit friendly team culture. This roleis a full-time permanent position based in our Newcastle office.

What You'll do

  • Review spend analytics and develop sourcing strategies
  • Negotiate and establish contracts with key suppliers
  • Analysis of vendor spend data
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risk for the company
  • Mentor and lead category team members
  • Engage with senior stakeholders and establish award strategies which align with business objectives
  • Occasional travel to operating sites will be required.

What You'll Bring

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Extensive experience in leading high complexity Procurement, Category management or sourcing projects
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience leading tenders
  • Experience in managing category teams
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Established stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated capacity of effectively communicating with senior leaders
  • Above average computer skills, mainly excel, word and powerpoint
  • An understanding of mining, resources or construction industry is preferred but not essential
