Job DescriptionWhat will you be doing?
As an embedded software engineer, you will join the Reading team to support our activities within the Defence sector.
you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and maintenance of cutting-edge embedded software solutions. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of critical communication systems used by defence and government agencies. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our products.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Embedded Software Development : Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for defence communication systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards and security protocols.
- System Integration : Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with hardware components, ensuring seamless operation and reliability.
- Performance Optimization : Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and other software-related issues to enhance system efficiency.
- Testing and Validation : Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and validation of embedded software to meet stringent quality and reliability standards.
- Documentation : Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, code comments, and user manuals.
- Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, hardware engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project execution.
- Compliance : Ensure that all software development activities comply with industry regulations, security guidelines, and customer requirements.

Experience, skills and qualifications required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (3+ Years) in embedded software development, particularly in C/C++.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development tools.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and encryption algorithms.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to obtain security clearance as required for defence projects.
