FRS Associate Nurse Consultant

A very exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an Associate Nurse Consultant to join our award winning First Response Service.
The post holder will provide advanced clinical assessment and support to the team providing high quality interventions to patients of Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Trust.
The Associate Nurse Consultant will work in partnership with the existing clinical leadership team of psychiatrists and a nurse consultant.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse with a non-medical prescribing qualification and extensive clinical skills and knowledge of delivering care in front line mental health services.
The ideal candidate needs to be able to deliver high quality, compassionate care to individuals in crisis as well as assisting and liaising with the wider team and partner agencies.
The post holder will also assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of a high quality, effective service to patients in crisis.
As an associate nurse consultant you will be expected to provide clinical leadership and direction in the provision of excellent mental health assessment and treatment.
Support is provided initially over the phone by Psychological Wellbeing Telecoaches, who are trained in the process of mental health triage and who will attempt to de-escalate the individual's crisis over the phone and formulate a safety plan for that individual.
Dependent on the risk and need identified, a face to face assessment can be arranged and carried out by a Mental Health First Responders. The team is overseen each shift by a Clinical Lead. The outcome of the telephone triage or face to face assessment is that the patient will be supported, given advice, referred to appropriate services.
The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under considerable pressure at times.

- Provide professional nursing leadership, strategic direction, expert consultancy on all aspects of clinical nursing practice for the care of individuals of any age presenting to the First Response Service (FRS) across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
- Demonstrate highly advanced clinical skills in the triage, assessment, treatment and follow-up of adults in mental health crisis and assessment services. This will include overseeing patient care and onward referrals to ensure they are accepted by the appropriate services and providing crisis intervention in the interim.
- Prescribe and titrate agreed medications and offer medication advice to GPs for patients in a mental heath crisis.
- Take a lead in developing clinical skills of FRS colleagues.
- Provide clinical advice on triage, assessment, treatment, risk mitigation and management and care planning.
- Provide expert nursing / AHP practice, knowledge, training and experience in relation to adult mental health care, ensuring and promoting credibility with relevant stakeholders
- Provide expert nursing / AHP practice in relation to direct and indirect patient care.
- Promotion of inter-agency and collaborative working is an essential component of the post.
- NMC qualification and current registration
- Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Master level qualification relevant to role or equivalent experience
- Specific management or leadership training
- Significant experience of working within community and inpatients mental health settings, and specialist pathways including crisis care
- Experience of clinical leadership or management
- Experience of offering high quality clinical supervision
- Successful delivery of quality improvement initiatives
- Prescribing practice
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
- Ability to provide consultation to a wide range of professionals
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and report writing skills
- Proven track record of achieving objectives
- Able to evaluate and implement evidence based practice
- Knowledge of IT, including Microsoft Office and Power Point
- Able to work collaboratively within a multi-professional team and wider organisation and external agencies.
