Senior Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist - Y2A Service

We are looking for a qualified practitioner psychologist (Clinical/Counselling/Forensic) that is an enthusiastic, friendly, team player to work in a pilot Transitions to Adulthood community hub service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with young people aged 18-25 in a new and innovative pilot 'Transitions to Adulthood, Wellbeing Service'. Commissioned by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), this service brings together East London NHS Foundation Trust, as a member of the London Pathways Partnership (LPP), with voluntary sector partners, to develop creative approaches to engaging young people on probation in Newham.

The hub, co-located within Newham Probation, provides wrap-around support tailored to the distinct needs of young adults, including an understanding of maturity, in order to reduce re-offending, improve mental health and support young adults to make positive life choices. The service delivers therapeutic, psychological and psychiatric interventions to young adults and will embed psychologically informed practice across the hub, with an emphasis on trauma informed care.

As young black and Muslim men and women are significantly represented in the hub, our staff require a high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to issues relevant to young minoritised groups. We therefore hope to recruit a staff team reflective of our service user population and welcome applications from those with protected characteristics.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will hold a small caseload and provide a specialist psychology service across all sectors of care.

They will provide specialist psychological assessment, a range of low and high intensity psychological interventions, desistence planning, offering advice and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers, working within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

The postholder will be responsible for developing and delivering training to up-skill a non-psychology workforce.

They will provide supervision and staff support for qualified psychologists, other therapists in the team, as well third sector workers, trainees and students from training courses with established links to the forensic directorate.

They will support the service lead to gather data and prepare reports for the quarterly commissioners review meetings.

They will attend meetings relevant to the post, often representing the service.

The post holder will be expected to work autonomously at the hub, and across other London sites, within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

About us

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
