We’re BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today’s changing world.

We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy – and directly advise the owners and management teams leading them.

We’ll broaden your horizons

The Quality and Risk Management Team (QRM) provides leadership, guidance, and tools to help partners and staff manage quality and risk matters. The team is comprised of an Advisory and Compliance Team, a Chief Information Security Office Team, an Economic Crime Team, a Legal Team including a Commercial & Contracts Team, an Ethics Team plus the Quality Monitoring Team. The team works closely with the firm’s Technical Standards Group and the firm’s leadership.

We’ll help you succeed

Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships.

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

In this new role, the Business Continuity Management Manager (BCM Manager) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and testing the firm's business continuity management framework and subsequent plans. This role requires close collaboration with various business areas to ensure alignment with the firm's standards and best practices. The BCM Manager will provide expert guidance and support on business continuity management, risk assessment, and incident response.

The BCM Manager will monitor and report on the effectiveness of the business continuity management framework and the efficacy of plans, identifying and escalating any gaps or issues and driving continuous improvement of the framework. Additionally, this role will manage business continuity awareness and training activities, ensuring that all staff are well-prepared and informed of their roles and responsibilities in the event of a disruption. This role reports to the Risk & Controls Director in the Quality and Risk Management Team.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Develop and maintain the business continuity framework for the firm , ensuring it is aligned with risk appetite and compliant with security policies, standards, and informed by best practice.
  2. Conduct business impact analysis and risk assessments for all business areas, identifying the critical processes, resources, and dependencies that require documented and tested continuity plans whilst also informing IT service recovery priorities.
  3. Coordinate and facilitate the testing and exercising of the business continuity plans , ensuring that the objectives, scenarios, and outcomes are documented and evaluated.
  4. Monitor and report on the status of the business continuity plans , identifying and escalating any gaps or issues, and facilitating the continuous improvement of the plans.
  5. Provide expert guidance and support to the business areas on business continuity management, risk assessment, and incident response.
  6. Manage the business continuity awareness and training activities for the firm, ensuring that the staff are prepared and informed of their roles and responsibilities in the event of a disruption.
  7. Support the Risk & Controls Director in developing and implementing the business continuity strategy , policies, and standards for the firm.
  8. Lead the response and recovery efforts during incidents , ensuring that the business continuity plans are activated and followed as appropriate.
  9. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the BCM framework , ensuring alignment with standards (ISO 22301).
  10. Support the business areas in client due diligence and bid support , demonstrating the firm's business continuity capabilities and maturity.

Note: The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post. Job descriptions should be regularly reviewed to ensure they are an accurate representation of the post.

You’ll be someone with:

  1. Knowledge of and demonstrable experience within a related discipline – For example Business Continuity, Business Resilience, Enterprise Risk, Continuity Planning.
  2. Highly self-motivated and able to navigate ambiguity with confidence.
  3. Keen attention to detail.
  4. A strong ability to build relationships at all levels and influence stakeholders effectively, articulating the purpose and importance of these tasks.
  5. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of communicating technical subjects to both technical and non-technical audiences, adapting style to meet the needs of the audience.
  6. Proficient in working collaboratively with internal teams and third parties, promoting knowledge sharing across teams.
  7. In-depth understanding of business continuity management frameworks, such as ISO 22301, BCI Good Practice Guidelines, and BS 11200.
  8. Ideally possess a relevant industry certification, such as CBCI, CBCP, MBCI, MBCP, or similar.
  9. A Professional Services sector or Partnership background will be beneficial.
