Job Title: Head of EMEA Real Estate Financing

Key objectives critical to success:
The role holder will assume day-to-day responsibility for the Real Estate Financing business line across the EMEA region.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Marketing Nomura with relevant existing and potential new clients and counterparties, including large and mid-market Sponsors, developers, non-Sponsor owned Corporates and other intermediaries, to originate new business.
- Working collaboratively with key internal stakeholders, including regional and global product leadership teams, to define and execute business strategy.
- Formulating medium-to-long term strategic plan and identifying existing gaps in the EMEA Real Estate financing market where Nomura can develop competitive niches.
- Leading the origination, structuring and underwriting effort across Real Estate Financing transactions individually, as well as providing senior leadership, risk expertise and execution support to other team members.
- Developing differentiated content relevant to the firm’s target client-base, inc. pivoting towards mid-market sponsors and developers, along with diversifying into more differentiated financing structures i.e. junior / mezz. financing structures, to grow the business, and drive Nomura’s market share.
- Ensuring that management of risk for the EMEA Real Estate business portfolio is in line with the firms’ Risk Appetite Statement.
- Optimising financial resource utilisation and returns on financial resources within the business line.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
Essential
- Leadership experience involving management of senior personnel, and heading Real Estate business across both buy-side (strongly desirable) and sell side institutions.
- Established track record of working in Real Estate markets, with experience in both originating and executing significant business volume from non-vanilla structures (e.g. junior / mezz / special situations financings). Experience in Real Estate workout desirable.
- Demonstrated experience of expanding existing client relationships and developing new relationships with clients including, but not limited to, non-Sponsor corporates (inc. developers) or mid-market Sponsor clients.
- Hands-on execution experience, including seal structuring, credit analysis and underwriting on real estate transactions across the capital stack.
- A complete understanding of industry regulation as it affects the business line and products.
- Entrepreneurial and creative mind-set who can drive innovative ideas forward.
- Experience ensuring strong risk management and robust risk governance culture.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and influence stakeholders.
- Experience syndicating loans as part of an investor franchise.
