As a band 6 vascular access nurse practitioner you will be responsible for the provision and placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter’s (PICC) for patients receiving treatment in the Haematology Oncology Day unit and inpatient ward for chemotherapy drugs, supportive therapies and for patients who have difficult venous access.
The post holder will be an autonomous Practitioner, responsible for the assessment of patient’s venous access prior to treatment, providing an elective service for referred patients from Haematology Oncology service within the day unit. Also providing an emergency ad-hoc service for patients requiring immediate treatment in the day unit.
Accept referrals and refer patients to other health care professionals, as required, in the hospital and/or in the community.
Lead and co-ordinate the service alongside the unit manager.
Attend annual updates and complete a recognised PICC training programme and have a period of supervised practice and achieve required competency.
Current RN, registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
BSc Degree in relevant field.
Significant demonstrable experience within specialty with evidence of professional development.
Teaching qualification /experience and accredited NMC before mentorship course
Evidence of developing policy, guidelines and managing resources
Driving license.
