England, United Kingdom University of Plymouth Full time

The School of Psychology is offering a Teaching and Research Associate post starting on 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, with a fixed term of 6 years. TARA posts such as this are designed for career development, where teaching and research support roles are conducted in parallel with studies towards a PhD in the School of Psychology.

You will join a team of TARAs to provide specialist support for undergraduate teaching, running workshops and surgeries, supporting our experiential learning laboratory, preparing teaching materials, and helping to support research activities across the School of Psychology.

You will also be required to register for and work towards a PhD in the School of Psychology, with TARAs benefiting from waived study fees. You may carry out your PhD in any area of psychology for which there is supervision expertise within the school.

You will be part of a large, vibrant, highly collaborative community of PhD students and academic staff with good interdisciplinary links. Currently the school has 80+ students registered for a PhD or studying for a DClinPsy. Students will have access to extensive, modern and well-equipped laboratory facilities supported by a dedicated team of technical staff, the newly constructed Brain Research and Imaging Centre (BRIC) as well a Baby- and SchoolLab. For more details of the school’s research activity, please visit our research pages and our individual staff pages .

Applications are preferred from candidates holding an MSc in psychology research methods or equivalent research experience. You are expected to have at least an upper second class degree in psychology or closely related subject. Experience in psychological experiment design and analysis are highly desirable, along with confidence and fluency in statistical data analysis.

The first step in the application process is to identify potential main supervisor(s). You can identify potential research areas of interest by browsing the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research, the research strands in the School of Psychology and individual staff pages. Once you have identified a potential supervisor, your application can be sent to them for consideration.

Applications will need to include a research proposal (750 word maximum), a 1 page CV, and a grade transcript for your relevant graduate and undergraduate degrees. For informal discussion about potential PhD topics, please contact potential supervisors directly .

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact the TARA Line Manager for Psychology, Dr. Nadège Bault by email nadege.bault@plymouth.ac.uk

Interviews are likely to take place week commencing 10 June 2024 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.

These are part-time positions working 27.75 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for a period of 6 years due to business demand.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

The Faculty of Health holds two Silver and two Bronze Athena Swan Awards, which recognises commitment to supporting gender equality within higher education.

£33,966 to £37,099 pro rata per annum - Grade 6
