Job Description

As the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU) Fleet Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of the Council's vehicles and plant. Your responsibilities will encompass procurement, maintenance, compliance, and overall fleet management. You'll lead a team, manage budgets, and contribute to the continuous improvement of services.

Your key responsibilities will include setting policies and standards for fleet management, applying Best Value principles to enhance efficiency, collaborating with various departments to manage transport needs, overseeing budget management, developing and maintaining management information systems, contributing to the Integrated Transport Units development, managing the transition to zero carbon, and ensuring health and safety practices across workshop facilities.

You will also oversee a diverse team comprising approximately 16 Technicians, 3 Technicians in Charge, a Compliance Officer and 2 Transport Clerks. Beyond internal management, you'll also engage with Welsh Government officials, senior officers, and other stakeholders, representing the Authority in regional and national transport groups.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good educational background with numeracy skills and relevant technology qualifications.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations (HGV) and awareness of relevant legislation.
  • Excellent people management skills and experience dealing with external organisations.
  • Strong communication, motivational abilities, and familiarity with computer-based systems.
  • Flexibility and availability for out-of-hours activities.
  • Ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
  • A HGV driving license is essential for this post.

This role will be primarily office-based but you will also travel regularly to attend meetings within the County and regionally. Additionally, some office tasks are carried out within a garage depot environment.
