A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the concept development, design, and implementation of EICA projects within the optimization program with a key focus on control and automation are delivered to time and budget (PLC / SCADA / HMI). You will be part of our technical improvement team in the wider Operational Planning & Improvement team focusing on continuous improvement projects providing insight and analysis to operational and project management teams. A critical role being the subject matter expert providing technical advice to technical engineering advice to project teams and helping with commissioning of sites following Southern Water standards.
You will have the opportunity to have an input on project optimization by undertaking investigative and corrective work on control systems and instrumentation on both water and wastewater plants as required, identifying any optimization / efficiency opportunities and making recommendations to project team. Your role will be paramount in implementing control system modifications to realize optimization efficiencies in both site process control and power consumption. Your technical expertise will be demonstrable in your ability to deploy power logging equipment and interpret the results to determine baselines and benefits of optimization projects. Being a confident collaborator, you will build effective working relationships with contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders including Southern Water ICA / RTS.
To be successful in this role, you will have competencies in the below key areas:
- Significant depth of knowledge of fault-finding, calibration, testing, investigating, and programming in technical aspects such as telemetry, flow metering, PLCs / control systems, and other measurement meters.
- Experience in designing and implementing process improvements via control system modifications and experience in diagnosing and fixing complex process and control system faults.
- A credible individual, capable of relating to program and project managers across differing business functions at a senior level, challenging them, and exerting significant influence at a program and individual project level.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and understand complex and interdependent project plans and assure such in a thorough, logical way.
- Highly flexible approach and engaging personal style.
- Highly logical and analytical approach with excellent planning skills and the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
You will have Degree in Engineering and possess a Chartered or working towards the qualification is highly advantageous.
With your extensive PLC and SCADA systems knowledge and experience, your strong transmission media and telemetry background is key, within the water sector is preferred however it is not essential.
