We are looking for a committed and experienced person who will play a key leadership role in our Facilities Department, working alongside and supporting the Head of Estates and Facilities in the delivery of the department objectives. In so doing, ensure the development of a safety-conscious culture throughout the school.
Bedales School is a unique educational establishment, set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Central to our success is the sense that each person is a member of our community whose voice is entitled to be heard and treated with respect. The day-to-day management of Health, Safety, and Fire across the Three Schools, including policy, organization, planning, and implementation, measuring, review, and audit.
# Advise the Head of Estates and Facilities and the Senior Management team on the operational direction of Health, Safety, and Fire and alert them to developments and changes in Health, Safety, and Fire legislation.
# Act as the Three Schools Lead and designated "Competent Person" for Health, Safety, and Fire.
# Participate in the continuing development of robust, transparent Health & Safety systems and procedures and commit to the cultivation, growth, and maintenance of a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the Facilities Department and the Three Schools.
# Oversee accident/incident management including the completion of investigations, collating incident data and statistical reporting.
# Be responsible for the management of Health & Safety training and assessments, relating to Fire, Manual Handling, Working at Heights, DSE, and Risk Assessments. Ensuring all staff have completed required training to ensure they can safely carry out their role.

Experience in a comparable role is essential, with extensive practical knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and best practice in relation to its application within a diverse multi-use working environment.
This post works year-round both during when the school is open and pupils are present and during school holiday and closure periods and you will be required to work 37.5 hours each week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

All staff have a key role to play in identifying concerns early and in providing help for children. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
