Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist

Our well-established, friendly community team consists of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants.
You will provide therapy assessment, treatment and advice, working in a variety of settings to include clinics, schools and nurseries with children of all ages. We have excellent links with schools, early years settings and Social Care and you will become part of the wider team supporting children and their families.
You will have good communication and team working skills. You will need to be able to work independently and have an ability to effectively prioritise and manage a varied caseload.
- To work within the Children's Therapy service, applying effective clinical interventions within paediatrics in line with current evidence base.
- To carry out assessment and treatment of children with speech, language and communication needs, with the aim of using education and advice to facilitate children/ young people and carers to understand and actively participate in the management of the condition, leading to safe and timely discharges and transfer of care.
- To determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individual and group treatment programmes and/or provide advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.

- To manage autonomously, a clinical workload of patients/clients, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinical records, referring queries to senior staff.
- To have speech and language therapy assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to:
- Triage of referrals
- Identification of therapy needs
- Speech language and communication disorders
- Training others to manage a child's difficulties
- Joint goal setting
- To communicate effectively using non-verbal, verbal, written and electronic means.
- To liaise and develop rapport with patients/clients, carers, members of the MDT, where appropriate, and outside agencies under guidance of a senior therapist.
- To act, within the service, as a resource and provide advice for other professionals and colleagues within the MDT about the assessment, treatment, management and care of patients/clients with support from senior staff.
- To work alongside other professionals to ensure effective care pathways care.
- To make appropriate referrals to other agencies/practitioners.
- To deliver programmes of assessment, treatment and intervention for patients/clients with support from senior staff.
- To manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, working efficiently to manage professional time and delegate according to the training and competency levels of other team members to ensure the effective delivery of the service.
- To participate in the supervision process.
- To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided including implementing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.
- To provide assessment and advice for the MDT and participate in MDT meetings as appropriate.
- With experience, plan and delegate workload to assistants.
- Relevant Degree/Diploma.
- Registered with HCPC
- Member of Professional Body.
- Undergraduate experience in a wide range of clinical areas
- NHS or Social Service experience
- Good clinical reasoning skills
- Evidence of CPD and reflective practice
- Awareness of relevant Legislation, NSF'S/ Local and National initiatives.
- Basic understanding of Clinical Governance
- Ability to maintain legible and accurate records
- Previous experience working at Band 5 level
- Presentation skills
- Recent experience demonstrating ability to assess, treat and evaluate speech, language and communication difficulties in a children's therapy service.
- Ability to undertake assessment and formulate treatment/management programmes with patients/clients, acting as an autonomous practitioner
