London, United Kingdom Jamsesh Full time

🚀 About Us At Jamsesh, we believe XR is the next frontier for social experiences and that music and games have always been inherent to how we socialise. We're creating the next generation of music games - a world where players can jam, compete, create and share music in a visually stunning, immersive environment. We're a small, passionate team of gamers and technologists. If you love building audio-reactive visuals, are obsessed with pushing the boundaries of where new technologies can take game development and live for solving the unique challenges of VR/AR, we want to talk to you. 🎨 The Role As our first creative hire you will own not just the technical aspect of the creative function, but also influence the artistic direction and creative standards for how our assets/brand show up in the world. You are the vital link between artistic ambition and technical reality. You will be responsible for crafting highly optimised assets, user generated content features and creative tools that define the aesthetic vision of our game. Working closely with a Head of Product and Lead Developer, you'll ensure that cutting-edge visual design meets restrictive hardware limitations. You'll need the right to work in the UK - unfortunately we're not able to sponsor candidates at this time. This is a rare opportunity for a creative technologist with an aesthetic bias to define the visual signature of the next generation of music game ✨ Key Responsibilities XR Performance & Optimisation: Profile, analyse, and hands-on optimise all visual aspects, focusing on immediate and high-impact wins across draw calls, polycounts, texture memory, and shader complexity for headsets with mobile chipsets like the Meta Quest 3. Highly Optimised Shader Creation: Design, author, and maintain performant, stylised shaders using Unity's URP/Shader Graph or HLSL for all in-game elements (environments, characters, UI), prioritising optimisation from the initial design phase. Dynamic Audio-Reactive VFX: Develop, test, and integrate performant real-time particle systems and shaders that react dynamically to music, beat maps, and player input to deliver the core visual experience. Full Art Pipeline Ownership: Design, build, and maintain the entire 3D art pipeline from DCC (Digital Content Creation software) to the Unity engine, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow for all art assets. Custom Tooling & Automation: Identify pipeline bottlenecks and build immediate solutions. Create custom tools and scripts to automate repetitive tasks, focusing on essential functions like custom exporters, asset validation, and batch processing to maximise the art team's output. Rigging, Skinning, & Animation Integration: Implement and maintain the rigging and animation pipelines, ensuring all assets are correctly skinned, highly optimised, and performant for real-time XR use. ✅ Must-have Qualifications 4+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in XR, games, real-time graphics, or immersive installations. Comfort working in a highly experimental, rapid-prototyping environment. Strong proficiency with the Unity engine, including asset workflows, scripting, and VFX systems. Strong knowledge of shader authoring (Shader Graph, HLSL, GLSL) and scripting. Expertise in a 3D modeling and animation package (e.g., Blender, Maya) and an understanding of the full asset creation pipeline. 🌟 Bonus Points Proven XR experience: You have shipped at least one commercial VR or AR experience AI-positive attitude and knowledge of current toolset to implement generative tools/models in the creative process Experience with audio-reactive visuals, FFT data, or integrating audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD). Proficiency with Unity's VFX Graph or Particle System. Experience with generative art tools and workflows (e.g., Houdini, Substance Designer). Knowledge of advanced XR rendering techniques (e.g., foveated rendering, single-pass instanced rendering). A personal passion for music, music creation, or rhythm games. 🎧 Why Work With Us? Define a new genre: Be a foundational member of the team defining the look, feel, and future of immersive entertainment. High impact: As part of a small, focused team, your work will have a direct and immediate impact on the final product. Creative freedom: We're building something new, which means we value creative problem-solving and new ideas. Hybrid working: We come together as a team at least 3 days a week in our London office. Competitive salary and generous stock options packages 🎵. How to Apply Sound like your kind of jam?
