The role

As the first Process Engineer at Chemify focused on extracting optimal value from the platform, its operations, and each of its components, you will play a critical and indispensable role in optimizing the overall company performance: ensure all platform components work efficiently together, provide operators and chemists with efficient and high quality tools and workflows, develop and implement thoughtfuland efficient processes tailored to the size and maturity of the company, facilitate high quality communication between parties through clarity, training, and expectation setting, and optimize the cost structure of the company by prioritizing automation investment, new features, and capabilities.

You will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team encompassing software hardware engineering, automation, chemical synthesis, drug discovery, industrial chemicals, advanced material, and software development. Responsibilities

  • Systematically, methodically, and consistently improve operational processes, laboratory efficiency, and the overall performance of the delivery organisation across all its components from partner onboarding to fufilment.
  • Accurately and quantitatively model the overall operational and laboratory processes across the delivery organisation, and use outputs to prioritise the technological and process development activities to maximize return on investments and gains in productivity in short amounts of time.
  • Dramatically improve company efficiency in short timelines to maximize the value created by existing and future technology products in a human-centric system.
  • Introduce new processes and operational functions across the organization by integrating all components into highly efficient workflows decreasing costs, increasing quality, improving turn-around-time, and maximize the overall throughput of the organization.
  • Work closely with Quality, Laboratory Operations, and Research Chemistry to optimize the day-to-day workflows of the company to ensure quality, efficiency, and scalability in the company’s ability to deliver on multiple complex chemical synthesis campaigns in parallel, leveraging the company’s core platform components.
  • Work closely with hardware engineering, software engineering, and other functions to prioritize, design, develop, and implement high quality workflows heavily reliant on existing and new technologies.
  • Work with management and other functions to analyze the efficiency of the laboratory, prioritize areas of improvements, and allocate resources to improve overall company efficiency quickly and aggressively.
  • Collaborate on the ideation and development of long-term plans for transformative performance improvements for the company.
  • Teach and guide less experienced members of the company involved in process engineering.
  • Participate in other tasks across the company to ensure Chemify’s ultimate success.

Requirements

  • BEng Hons or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronic, process, chemical, or other equivalent engineering or analytical disciplines.
  • Over 5 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering demonstrating dramatic impact in operational efficiency
  • Experience in highly efficient manufacturing environment. A critical eye to have spotted minor opportunities for improvements, and a visionary mind to have seen ground-breaking ways to have achieved transformational performance in manufacturing processes.
  • A proven track record of systematically, quickly, and effectively introduce new processes and improve efficiency in complex industrial environments.
  • An exceptional analytical sense and intuition to envision, think through, and methodically prioritize opportunities for improvement.
  • A process-oriented mind to document, teach, train, implement, and improve complex technology- and human- driven processes.
  • A natural inclination and sensitivity towards technology (software, hardware, AI, others) and its potential to significant impact operational efficiency on short-, medium-, and long-term basis.
  • Hardworking and excited to contribute to the Chemify mission.

Desired skills & attributes

  • Training and expertise in operational efficiency frameworks such as 5s, 6 sigma, or equivalent
  • Creativity, problem-solving skills and ability to abstract and formalize problems,
  • Enthusiasm to learn new approaches and concepts and to work with an experimental automation platform.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn about advanced additive manufacturing techniques e.g. 3D printing, laser cutting.
  • Oral and written communication & presentation skills,
