Hours of Work: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Term Time
Job Type: Full Time, Long Term
About the school:
We are partnering with a warm and inclusive primary school in Cheshunt, London, that is deeply committed to supporting students with special educational needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. The school boasts a caring, diverse, and friendly environment, where every child is encouraged to thrive, regardless of their individual challenges.
With a close-knit staff and excellent resources, the school has built a reputation for providing exceptional support and guidance for both students and teachers. The school’s facilities include sensory rooms, quiet zones, and specially designed outdoor learning spaces, offering students a variety of learning environments that cater to their needs.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant with a specialism in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), you will play a vital role in supporting children with ASD across Key Stages 1 and 2. This is a full-time, long-term position where you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to create tailored support plans for individual students.
Your role will involve assisting students in both classroom and 1:1 settings, helping them develop their social and academic skills, and encouraging positive behaviour. You will be instrumental in creating a safe, nurturing space where children feel valued and understood, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Experience working with children on the autism spectrum in a school setting.
• Knowledge of autism-specific teaching strategies and communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton.
• A proactive approach to managing challenging behaviours.
• A genuine passion for making a positive impact in the lives of children with special educational needs.
Supporting children with ASD in both classroom and individual settings.
• Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Providing tailored interventions to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
• Assisting in the development of communication skills using autism-specific tools such as visual aids, schedules, and sensory equipment.
• Supporting students with transitions, both within the school and to external activities.
As a valued member of the team, you’ll be part of a supportive and welcoming school community that values the unique contributions of each staff member. The school offers regular professional development opportunities to help you grow in your role, including specialised SEN training, mentoring from experienced educators, and access to well-being programs. You will also benefit from working in a school with a dedicated SEN department, providing you with the resources and collaborative support needed to deliver the best possible education and care to students. The role offers a competitive daily rate, with long-term opportunities for career growth in the field of SEN.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. However, we will keep your CV and continue to help you in your search for a job within education. This post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Clearance.
