We have a great opportunity for a Mechanical Technician who has experience working on high-risk mechanical systems within healthcare estates, universities or for MOD Estates which could include steam and boiler systems, compressed air networks, refrigeration plant, industrial, medical gas pipelines and Vacuum systems.

The Mechanical Infrastructure Engineer is a Controlling Authorised Person (CAP) responsible for the safe, and effective, operation and control of the mechanical distribution systems and their associated assets across three STFC sites; RAL, Chilbolton Observatory and The Coseners House.

Daily duties will include the following:

  • Assessing, appointing and reviewing staff and contractors as skilled or competent persons to work on mechanical systems.
  • Isolations on high-risk systems.
  • Assisting with insurance inspections and supporting senior mechanical staff.
  • The administration of documentation for inspections and audits, including permits, notices, and written schemes.
  • Ensuring actions from inspections are available for internal and external audit.

A suitable candidate should be able to demonstrate the completion of a formal indentured apprenticeship in a related discipline. They will have experience working as an Authorised Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems (AP Mechanical BPS) and as a BOAS certified industrial boiler operator, being able to demonstrable technical knowledge and understanding of mechanical safe systems of work and the dangers associated with high-temperature, high-energy and pressured mechanical systems, control and instrumentation found in large facilities management estates. UK Drivers License is essential. An ideal candidate would also be registered with a professional institution as an Incorporated Engineer or Engineering Technician, or be willing to work toward this accreditation.
