Vacancy for Conservator, Time-based Media at Tate

28 July 2022

London

£33,106 per annum

Fixed Term

Time-based media in this context describes artworks that have as their medium film, slides, video, audio, performance or software; they can be analogue or digital, but crucially they all have a durational aspect, or the "dimension" of time. The time-based media conservation team is responsible for the preservation, acquisition, exhibition, display and loan of these artworks.

We are seeking a conservator to work within the team to support the wide range of exhibitions and displays that are part of Tate's programme, with a focus on the Tate Britain Rehang. This role will work with a team of conservators, senior technicians and technicians on the preparation and installation of time-based media artworks selected for display across all Tate sites. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate the strong technical knowledge, skills and experience required for the preparation and installation of these artworks.

This role will require an understanding of a range of technologies, media formats and the implications for displaying such artworks within gallery spaces. Day to day duties would include: care and maintenance of artwork equipment, liaising with other teams to organise the display of artworks, working within the team to prepare media and display equipment, as well as creating detailed documentation of artworks and how they are installed.

We are looking for someone who is willing to learn and develop in this area and share skills in a collaborative environment. It would be desirable for any candidate to have an interest in contemporary art and to have some knowledge of video editing software and running scripts in the command line. #J-18808-Ljbffr
