Person specification

Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & 'Understanding the New NHS'
  • Ability to act under own initiative within defined parameters of NHS and Trust finance policies
  • Knowledge of the business planning process
  • Knowledge of costing and forecasting techniques
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Foundation Trusts
Skills
Essential criteria
  • Ability to use own initiative, prioritise own workload to achieve strict deadlines and make decisions
  • Be innovative with strong problem solving and fact-finding skills
  • Methodical approach with attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, good general IT skills, keyboard skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Evidence of, and commitment to Continuing Professional Development
  • Professional accounting qualification equal to post graduate diploma level or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Financial management experience
  • Ability to convey financial information to non-finance professionals
  • Experience of working with computerised finance ledger
  • Advanced practical experience in using spreadsheets
  • Experience of developing costings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising the work of junior staff
  • Experience of working in a finance role within the NHS
  • Experience of working with Oracle and ESR
  • Experience of NHS Planning
  • Experience with costing software
