We are currently seeking a Senior/Principal C&I Engineer to join the Decommissioning & Waste Services market within our Nuclear & Power business. Ideally based in Northwest England although other locations UK wide can be considered.

You will work in our market which is predominantly focused on delivering engineering and waste management projects for clients within the Nuclear Decommissioning sector, with some projects focused on other stages of the nuclear lifecycle. We tackle projects that have varied engineering, nuclear and safety challenges, which requires proactive and mixed-skill delivery teams working collaboratively to deliver a high-quality solution.

We continually invest in our people, technology, working facilities and supporting resources to ensure that we strengthen and grow our current capabilities as well as develop new capabilities. This allows us to deliver projects using industry leading and innovative techniques, such as utilising our growing technology solutions and robotics capabilities and showing that our solutions work through active demonstrators.

The Role:

You will join an existing EC&I team and be responsible for the delivery of complex design packages for key nuclear clients. You will be required to have a role in overseeing and developing current engineers and integrating with the wider disciplines within the engineering group.

The role is specific to taking a lead role on projects or be able to demonstrate that you have strong capabilities in becoming a C&I lead that can contribute to multi-disciplinary design delivery autonomously, with minimal oversight.

Key skill sets shall include:

  • Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids.
  • Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost, and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications.
  • Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management.
  • Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual, and local business processes, standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.

The Individual:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Experience of full lifecycle engineering.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Design Justification Reports.
  • Technical presentations.
  • Attending factory acceptance tests.

An in depth understanding of at least one of the following areas:

  • Instrumentation and control system theory including PID control.
  • Electrical circuits design, EMC precautions and power supply characteristics.
  • Safety Integrity Levels and BS EN 61508 or 61511.
  • Machinery Safety and UKCA Marking.
  • PLC programming.
  • Fieldbus technology (Profibus/Profinet).

How will you contribute to the team:

  • An innovator – You will encourage people to experiment, produce new ideas and challenge others to think differently. You’ll create space for people to think about potential new innovative approaches, providing an opportunity for growth.
  • An Improver - You spend time on making the processes, methods, and toolsets more efficient, optimising your resources to be able to deliver better.
  • Fully integrated with colleagues within the DWS engineering group and also wider business where applicable.
