We are looking for a post-CCT candidate with extensive research experience who is looking to develop their research portfolio through a two year 5 PA senior research fellow post (consultant level) for research and development based at Heartlands Hospital with duties across sites within UHB.

This post has the following primary objectives:

1.Establish a sustainable research programme with ongoing income stream. Suitable fields of research would include, but are not limited to, vaccine studies and genetic studies

2.Support ongoing and future research within the paediatric and neonatal departments by supporting existing PIs and helping with scanning for funding sources and with writing grant applications

3.Support supervision of the existing paediatric research nursing and administration team, and its expansion

4.Support the development and funding of research fellow posts through RCPCH and other sources

5.Promote research awareness in the department by training medical, nursing and other staff and encouraging their development of and participation in research, and presentation and publication of research findings

6.Promote participation with regional, national and international research networks

7.Develop personal research career to be competitive for application for senior lecturer post or similar academic role

Job description

Job responsibilities

There will be opportunities to add clinical sessions to the job plan if desired, in discussion and negotiation with the respective clinical service leads for neonates and paediatrics.

The post holder will:

* Develop a sustainable research programme through engagement with national studies, working collaboratively with established PIs within the Trust and Birmingham University

* Act as Principal Investigator or co-investigator for research studies

* Support colleagues in grant applications, and in developing research capacity within the department.

* Work with the paediatric R& D team to support current research activity in the department, and to develop research capacity.

* Undertake and maintain appropriate life support training and, in partnership with R& D and CRF senior management and staff, initiate definitive strategies to anticipate and expertly manage medical safety issues, including emergencies

* Undertake and maintain GCP training and attend other appropriate training

* Participate in the writing, and review, of appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in association with R& D governance

* Contribute to the risk assessment and planning of risk mitigation strategies for early phase trials As a representative of paediatric R& D , develop positive relationships with Sponsors and regional and national research networks

* Any other duties as may be deemed reasonable in collaboration with the paediatric team
