Job Description

Your future team:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Strategic Infrastructure Business Unit. You will be joining a dynamic team of skilled engineers, working on exciting Defence projects.

Your missions:

You will be responsible for managing the delivery of mechanical engineering work packages to ensure they meet the required scope, quality, schedule, and cost. This role involves overseeing the technical aspects of mechanical engineering projects from the initial identification of need through to the final handover. Additional responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer include:

Leading and managing one or more technical design packages, establishing project-related objectives, managing designer performance, and making appropriate technical decisions.

Ensuring design documentation comprehensively covers the required operations and adheres to agreed standards, schedules, and budgets.

Leading the technical planning process for effective project implementation, identifying key factors that contribute to project success.

Ensuring compliance with Quality Management Arrangements, adhering to the Client's Business Management System and Technical Manual.

Documenting processes and activities thoroughly, maintaining appropriate records and applying configuration and quality controls.

Managing and communicating Risk Assessments to ensure staff and contractors are aware of hazards and risks associated with their work.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills to be successful:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Chartered Engineer status, or progress toward Chartership, is highly desirable.

Extensive experience in designing mechanical and nuclear process/plant systems (e.g., fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing).

Expertise in selecting pumps, piping systems, and producing/checking P&ID drawings and fabrication drawings to recognised standards.

Proficient in producing and checking a wide range of engineering reports and mentoring junior engineers.

Strong awareness of the functional safety implications of process/plant design and safety systems.

Knowledge of seismic analysis for mechanical process equipment is beneficial.

Proficiency in Mathcad, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (or equivalent), and MS Office.

Additional Information

Umbrella Contractor or Permanent Staff position.

Mainly home working or from a local Assystem office with occasional visits to the Client site in Plymouth.

SC required but can start with BPSS, sole UK nationals only.
