GSL Education are seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Workers to join an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire. As a Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing support, guidance, and encouragement to students with diverse learning needs. Ideal applicants should have knowledge of additional needs and linked behaviours, such as Autism, Learning Difficulties, ADHD and GDD. Being able to communicate well with school leaders, parents and carers is essential. About the School: Specialist Provision: An Ofsted graded ‘Good’ School in York, known for its specialist provision catering to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Diverse Curriculum: The school offers a diverse and inclusive curriculum tailored to the individual needs of students, providing a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Experienced Staff: The school has a dedicated team of experienced staff, including teachers, teaching assistants, and support professionals, who are committed to the well-being and academic success of every student. Therapeutic Support: The school provides comprehensive therapeutic support and interventions to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Positive Relationships: The school emphasises the importance of building positive relationships and promoting social skills development among students, fostering a sense of belonging and community. As the ideal Youth Worker, you should have: Previous experience working as a Youth Worker or in a similar role, preferably in an educational setting. Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and experience working with students with diverse learning needs such as Autism, ADHD and SEMH. Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support the well-being and development of young people. Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting students with SEN, such as Team Teach, MAPPA or NAPPI. Level 2 Team Teach Training can be provided throughout the summer holidays. Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, education, or a related field. Have an Enhanced Child Only DBS registered to the update service, or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education Part of your job role will include you: Assisting students in on a 1:1 and small group basis, delivering pre-planned interventions. Planning and facilitating group activities and workshops that promote social skills, emotional well-being, and independence. Working in partnership with the SENCO to work towards achieving EHCP outcomes. Offering emotional support and guidance to students experiencing difficulties or distress. Maintaining regular communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on student progress, and involving them in decision-making processes. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and develop individualised support plans.
