As the Head of Legal (12-month FTC) you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing all legal matters for Curve. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to support our strategic initiatives, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and mitigate legal risks. In addition to being an individual contributor, you will lead a small team to provide a best-in-class legal service in a demanding, fast-paced FinTech environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Advise the executive team and other stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate transactions, commercial contracts and partnerships, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and data privacy.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (e.g. finance, business development, product, and engineering) to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Manage external legal counsel relationships, including budgeting and selecting appropriate legal expertise.
  • Support in delivering new products and benefits to customers, challenging the status-quo.
  • Develop and implement effective legal strategies, and procedures to safeguard the interests of Curve while supporting business objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, changes in laws, and regulations to proactively address potential legal issues.
  • Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment and setting service standards so the legal team provides high quality service.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of corporate law (including fundraisings and corporate transactions), commercial contracts, regulatory compliance (ideally within the payments space), and intellectual property matters.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • High motivation and the ability to pivot quickly in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • High EQ - communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders and present complex legal matters in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and mentor a team at different stages of their career and foster an inclusive and collaborative environment.
