Practice Receptionist

We are recruiting on behalf of our GP Practices for this position.
The purpose of the role is to:
- Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendlyimage to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
- Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing appropriate services or healthcareprofessionals in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of thepractice, including the provision of front of house reception duties and clerical supportto clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
- Facilitate effective communications between patients, members of the primary healthcare team, secondary care, and other associated agencies.
You will be expected to work flexibly at all Sutton PCN sites.
Main duties of the job- Opening/locking up procedures and maintaining security in accordance with practiceprotocols
- Processing personal and telephone requests of appointments, visits, and telephoneconsultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcareprofessional.
- Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail.
- Taking message and passing on information
- Filing and retrieving paperwork
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recordinginformation in accordance with practice procedures.
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team membersand associated health and social care agencies and providers
- Reading and responding to emails both internal and NHS.net mail
- Processing internal practice notes on the clinical systems
- Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms as required.
- Dealing with clinical waste
- Acting as a chaperone for clinicians if appropriately trained (training is provided)
- Booking of patient transport in line with practice protocols
- Registering patients with the practice in line with practice protocols
- Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required, emptying and loading thedishwasher and keeping the kitchen area tidy.
SuttonPrimary Care Networks CIC is the collaborative vehicle for the four Sutton PCNsand the former Sutton GP Federation working together as a single entity. We area Community Interest Company that aims to reinvest surpluses back into generalpractice and primary care for the benefit of our practices and the people whoform the communities we serve.
Suttonhas four PCNs whose boundaries are based on historical relationships andgroupings of organisations. There are some similarities of residents healthand care needs unique to a particular PCN, and many more needs that are sharedacross all four PCNs.
Ourfour PCNs represent all 22 GP surgeries around Sutton. Their collectivefootprints covers all the London Borough of Sutton and its residents who areable to access and benefit from the services and improvements offered byPrimary Care Networks.

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the reception team may includeany or all the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under thedirection of the senior receptionist/management team, dependent on the current and evolvingpractice workload and staffing levels:

- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or thebusiness of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance withthe practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection ofpersonal and sensitive data.
- - Good standard of general education
- - GCSE English and Mathematics
- - Professional qualification e.g., AMSPAR Receptionist cert. or NVQII in Customer Care
- A knowledge and understanding of primary care.
- - Experience of working with general public
- - Experience of dealing with stressful and demanding situations
- - Experience of reception work
- - Experience of working within general practice or a medical environment
- - Good basic computer skills
- - Excellent customer service skills both verbally and in writing
- - Good telephone manner
- - Ability to use own initiative
- Knowledge of EMIS Web clinical system
