An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our community paediatric Occupational Therapy team based at the Newberry Child Development Centre. Come join our forward thinking, committed Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team who place patient care and your professional and personal development to the forefront. We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician with skills in the field of paediatrics, to help us build a strong future for therapy and increase the profile of Occupational Therapy within the service. You will be supported to manage your clinical caseload, providing assessments and interventions to a wide range of children and young people. You will also provide support to team members and students, as well as assist in their training and development. You will play a role in service development working closely with the Paediatric leadership team.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for your own caseload consisting of patients with developmental coordination difficulties, sensory processing differences and equipment needs to promote function and independence in activities of daily living. Assessments will take place in a variety of settings including: clinics, patients' homes and school placement.

Good prioritisation, organisational and time management skills will be required to balance clinical duties. You will need advanced communication skills to ensure a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working in close liaison with the other teams including: Neurodevelopmental and Physiotherapy. You will be in regular discussions with children, young people and their families, as well as other health, education and social care professionals. You will be responsible for other non-clinical duties such as in-service development ideas, training of students and therapy assistant practitioners.

Education and Qualifications

Essential


  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy (BSc/MSc)
  • Current HCPC registration
  • CPD record should include evidence of up-to-date manual handling, relevant clinical courses and reflections of learning
  • Undertaken a student/fieldwork educators course

Experience and Knowledge

Essential


  • Clinical experience to include integrated teams
  • Experience of working with a range of professionals within multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of reflective learning
  • Awareness of relevant professional practice, new research and guidelines
  • Understanding of legal issues, Safeguarding and mental capacity
  • Working knowledge of clinical governance and implications for own work
