About the Team

We are the Financial Assessment & Benefits Advice team undertaking financial assessments to calculate charges for customers receiving care services following council policies and Government guidance and regulations. In addition, we provide welfare benefits advice and information to customers, helping them to maximise their income and be aware of potential help available to them.

About the Role

This Finance Officer role means being part of a busy team where you will be undertaking financial assessments for care charges based on Government guidance, regulations, and Council policies, as well as providing advice and information. The role involves verifying customer financial information, interpreting, and implementing complex guidance and policies to correctly calculate charges for care services, provide explanations to customers verbally and in writing as well as dealing with various disputes and queries related to financial assessments.

It is a challenging role requiring a good understanding of benefit and social care regulations as well as being able to communicate sometimes difficult or unwelcome information to individuals ranging from customer’s receiving care, relatives, and family members to legal representatives about charges.

Key Requirements

As you will be working with a variety of stakeholders, it is important you have strong analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal. You need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as collaboratively with customers, families, colleagues, and other representatives.

You will have the ability to work to deadlines, under pressure in a fast paced environment, whilst always maintaining accuracy, composure, and your professional manner. You will be used to interpreting sometimes complex information, following regulations, making decisions, and providing consistent and clear explanations in writing and verbally to justify decision making and deal with customer queries or disputes.

Experience using computer systems to input and obtain information is essential as well as experience using, and knowledge of word processing software and spreadsheets. Knowledge of welfare benefits and/or social care services is an advantage and preferrable although training can be provided to candidates demonstrating suitable skills.
