A bit about Field
Field is an international developer, owner, operator, of renewable infrastructure. Our Founder and CEO is a successful entrepreneur who previously co-founded a green energy supplier. We have robust pipelines of BESS projects across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany - and strong financial backing. Our team has experience scaling billion dollar tech start-ups and building energy companies, as well as deep specialisms in energy markets. We have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.
As Lead BESS engineer you’ll be responsible for leading the design and selection of battery systems that will be built across Field’s portfolio of multi-GWh duration energy storage projects in the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany.
It will also involve some travel to manufacturing sites and industry conferences to witness tests, engage at a deeper level on specific project issues and maintain relationships with technical and commercial counterparts.
This role will encompass the full battery lifecycle and mean you will also be working closely with the development, construction and operations teams to support their roles in site outline design, noise assessments, interface management with BOP contractors as well as supporting ongoing asset management to keep our batteries running at peak performance.
This is a broad and varied role that would suit someone with an engineering (preferably electrical) or physical science background who is curious, has an entrepreneurial mindset and wants to work with rapidly evolving technology. Assisting the construction team with monitoring the quality of commissioning of new battery sites, including visiting of BESS suppliers for Factory Acceptance Tests
Supporting the legal and contractual teams with technical expertise to understand the key contractual risks and avoid contractual disputes
Developing our in-house approach to long-term battery management to minimise operational risks and optimise battery health
You’re an open, clear communicator who enjoys working collaboratively - there are no ‘lone wolves’ at Field, we’re all in this together
An engineering or physical science degree with at least 6 years’ experience in the energy industry, preferably with experience at an energy equipment manufacturer, energy asset owner or energy design consultancy
Battery cells and Battery Management Systems
HV and MV Electrical power systems
Able to communicate effectively with contractors and suppliers from around the world.
Willingness to occasionally travel to sites in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain and battery equipment suppliers in Europe and China
We’re offering a competitive compensation package, including participation in our employee share scheme which rewards all employees for the growth of the business.

~& You will actually be building and operating the renewable infrastructure we need to reach net zero. This is not a green CSR initiative, but a company that is taking a leading role in building one of the critical solutions to a generational problem.
The energy market is in a paradigm shift right now, evolving at a breathtaking pace, and you will play a leading role in defining how that market evolves and innovates over the next few years.
We have experience scaling billion dollar tech start-ups and building energy companies, as well as deep specialisms in the energy markets. We carefully manage the impact of our work on local communities and the broader environment. We learn from one another, and we value diversity of thought and experience so we learn faster and get better

About FIELD
To reach Net Zero, we need to solve big challenges. Field will fund, build and run the renewable infrastructure we need to tackle these challenges. At Field, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now , not in some distant future.
